Maintaining Facebook Privacy

Five Simple Steps to Tackle FB Graph Search Invasion

Facebook has changed their privacy settings once again!! Due to the new "graph app," anyone on Facebook can see your pictures, likes & comments.

Please follow below steps and post "Done" in the comments below.

I want to stay connected to you and only you and not to all other marketers/strangers

When friends click "like" or "comment" that stuff can be seen by anyone automatically; To prevent this the ONLY way to do is

1. Please PLACE place your mouse over my name above (Just HOVER, DO NOT CLICK), a menu window will appear;

2. Now move the mouse over "FRIENDS" (also without clicking), then down to "Settings";

3. CLICK HERE here and a list will appear.

4. REMOVE the CHECK on "LIFE EVENTS and "COMMENTS & LIKES" and also PHOTOS.

By doing this, my activity among my friends and family will no longer become public.

Please copy & paste this on your wall. Once I see this posted on your page, I will do the same privacy settings for you. Thank you!

Facebook Site Governance Vote by Dec 10

Facebook's Site Governance Voting process is tucked in quietly and facebook is not advertising it much. Further, I feel that internally they might also be reducing the shares of this item or how often it shows up in the timeline of any user.
In fact, I checked my timeline and the fact that I voted doesn ot show up in my timeline. Oh well.

Steps to Vote:

1) Go to Facebook Site Governance page, Vote App:
https://www.facebook.com/fbsitegovernance/app_531615603522381
(Use Firefox if needed or having problems with Chrome)
2) Read through Proposed and Existing SRR and other terms if you wish.

3) Ideally, vote for keeping the Existing Documents: The current SRR and Data Use Policy. Use your judgement.

4) Share.

Everyone knows that pictures of a woman or a cute cat will get more shares so I enlisted Creative Commons to give me a woman pointing to the right choice.

Facebook Group Deletion & Application Privacy Settings

HOW TO COMPLETELY DELETE A GROUP THAT YOU CREATED ON FACEBOOK

If you have ever formed a group on facebook and now want to delete it, you know that facebook does not have a direct answer to that. As far as I know, facebook does not even have a help page. However, since you can rely on friends inside facebook (sometimes!) you get answers easily.

For completely deleting a group, you need to remove all members. This can be a pain if the group has several members. However, once you are done removing everybody successfully (if you are an admin + creator, this should not be a problem), you need to remove yourself. At this stage, facebook interface will finally ask you if you want to remove yourself and warn that the group will be deleted if you leave (see image). Just hit yes and be done!

Credit goes to several people on this facebook page.

ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT PRIVACY SETTING

You really need to look into this one, because this setting controls what your friends share about you when they take quizzes, social interview, games and all such crap on facebook.

FRIENDS SHARE STUFF ABOUT YOU to THIRD PARTIES.

before you do that, in a separate window, log into facebook.

Then click link below, (this way, you will already be logged in and there won't be hints of phishing etc thrown at this post!)

 ADJUST PRIVACY SETTINGS HERE

I would uncheck EVERYTHING. Unless you want to promote your website, then you can leave that on. If you want contextual ads, you can leave your personal info and birthday checked.

Facebook

Facebook Users, Beware!

Be careful when accepting new "Apps" especially ones that say "Your friend is sending you a Cake or Hug or etc. etc.. or that somebody added you as a "Top Friend".
These might all be ploys to get you to give personal information. Once the information is with the hackers/spammers they can infect your computer with spyware and capture lot of financial and other useful information.

LONDON: A probe by security experts has revealed that cyber criminals tend to work up a fortune by selling stolen Facebook profiles for an amoun

t as low as 89p.

According to Trend Micro specialists, hackers break into social networking accounts to steal personal information of users to sell them off to criminal groups who then use the details to send "spam" messages to million others.

The wrong-doers tend to send an invitation to account holders to view videos or pictures of family and friends, which on being clicked allow access to the victims' computer, reports the Sun.
